Annie Sloan used on a VERY old scaffold board

OK, we dismantled an old raised bed in the garden and had a very worn scaffold board on our hands, half underground for 2-3 years – it kinda looked nice to me and I didn’t want to just throw it out so I thought I’d try a bit of sign writing with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™..as you do.
First. Cleaned off all the old dirt and loose bits of wood and let it thoroughly dry out after being half underground for years – about 2 months drying time!
Then 1 coat of Louis Blue all over, after doing a quick sketch with a soft pencil I quickly hand drew the lettering in Old Violet , with outlines in Old White and Graphite, all very loose.
Clear and Dark Wax gave it the extra age I wanted (this will hang indoors somewhere as the wax doesn’t do so well outside)
….so the words don’t actually finish (or make sense!) but the idea was to finish up with part of a sign that looks about 100 years old – I love it and feel a few more coming on!DSC_1567 DSC_1568 DSC_1569
