Tips for painting

We are going to produce a series of helpful tips between now and Christmas to help you get the most out of Chalk Paint™ decorative Paint by Annie Sloan  – let us know if there’s any questions you may have – they might become a tip! #dovetails

After we have waxed a piece of furniture with Annie Sloan Soft Wax and wiped off any excess, we generally like to leave it overnight or up to about 24 hours before buffing with a soft lint-free cloth (an old t-shirt or bed sheet works great.)
We find this allows a lot of the wax to soak in and makes the job a lot easier on the elbow! You can achieve a really good shine using this method.
Sometimes for a more matt finish we hardly buff at all.

Annie Sloan Brushes are great for people who paint a lot, we find you can ‘load’ more paint onto these brushes and they’re brilliant for creating textured finishes.

Before using for the first time we wash them thoroughly with hot water and liquid soap to get rid of loose bristles.
If ever a bristle does come out while your painting, just wait for the paint to dry and just rub the bristle off with your finger, much better than getting sticky paint on your hands!
