Knob-tastic

Here’s an old pigeon hole cupboard that we’ve been wondering what to do with for a long time, first job was to clean it with hop soapy water then remove the broken handles and fill the holes left behind. Then I used Annie Sloan Old White, and gave it 2 coats (no priming or undercoat – just straight over the old paint). I rubbed a lot of it back to reveal bits of the original colour and then I waxed it with Annie Sloan Clear Wax.

Now the fun part… luckily I have a collection of mismatching vintage knobs (like you do) and other bits and bobs. I love trying new things out when I’m up-cycling, and this was too good an opportunity to miss. So now we have a Spoon, Fork, 2 vintage Castor wheels, an old cotton reel with a key and a Champagne Cork (Dom Perignon no less!) working as drawer knobs!

Now, I know this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea – if you like perfect, flat, mass-produced, bright white, straight – factory finishes in your life you’ll probably hate it.

But we cater for people who like imperfect, manmade, rustic, quirky, one-off, lived-in, characterful,…. – well, just interesting and not boring stuff really. That is what we’re about. The thing I like most about this set of drawers now is that I can look at it, time and time again – and it’s just a ‘nice’ thing to have around – does that make sense or is it just me who likes funky things – let’s hope not.
